BATAVIA, NY - The Genesee Women's Volleyball team hosted their first POD of the season as well as debuting at home. The Ladies took the day by storm, dominating the floor with two straight wins, taking down Corning's Red Barons and SUNY Broome's Hornets.
The first game looks easy for the Cougars as they took out the Red Barons in three straight sets. Their offense and defense kept the Red Barons held under 20 points in each set. That game, led by sophomore Elena Azzi. Azzi was the kill leader with 9 total. Freshman Delana Gay lead the team in serving aces with 8, followed by Sloan Jonathan as the assist leader with a total of 16.
Game two would give the Cougars a little more challenge, but to no fault they would take over entirely. The Cougars led the first two set, taking both. The third set would give the Hornets hope to rally back, as Genesee struggled offensively. Jonathan sparked a brief comeback, making the score 20-20, but corning took on a 5 point run, leading to the score being 25-20. The final set is where the Cougars took over and finished things off, leaving the Hornets behind with a score of 25-21. Azzi lead in kills with 10, Ashley Blair lead the team in assists with 12 as well as digs with 13. Holly Bykowski and Marissa Ciufo both lead the team with 4 serving aces.
The Cougars look to continue their streak at home against Monroe CC on Tuesday, September 17th at 6:00 PM.
