Athletic Training Goals and Philosophy

The goal of the athletic training staff at Genesee Community College is to provide high quality comprehensive sports medicine care for all sports-related injuries and illnesses. We are committed to the health and well-being of the student-athletes, and this commitment is achieved by consistently seeking the best way to deliver quality health care to each student-athlete.

The Athletic Training staff is comprised of one full-time and two part time certified athletic trainers, who work together to coordinate and deliver professional and comprehensive evaluation techniques, preventative treatment, rehabilitation and counseling services to all GCC student-athletes. All certified athletic trainers are nationally board certified, and are state licensed and regulated allied health care workers who practice the arts of athletic training at the highest professional standards.

Athletic Training Facilities

There are two Athletic Training Facilities at Genesee Community College. One located inside the Main Campus Building and another located inside the Richard C. Call Arena.

Main Campus Building Athletic Training Facility: located off the northwest corner of the Anthony T. Zambito Gymnasium, room number A143

RCC Building Athletic Training Facility: located within the Richard C. Call Athletic Building, on southwest corner of building, room number H120

The following treatment modalities are available; ice, heat, whirlpool, electrical muscle stimulation, and ultrasound.

Athletic Training Facility Hours

Athletic Training hours are dependent on the number of sports in season, competition and practice schedules, and the availability of the athletic training staff. Generally, the athletic training room will be open 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Monday through Friday and two hours prior to a home event. The athletic training room will also be open post-game as needed. Hours on the weekend (Saturday-Sunday) will vary depending on practice and competition schedules.

Pre-Participation Physical Exam/ Medical Forms

As required by the NJCAA every student-athlete MUST receive an annual physical exam in order to try-out for a team or participate in a practice session at Genesee Community College.

It is the responsibility of the Genesee Community College Athletic Training staff to make sure every student-athlete who wants to participate in athletics has an up to date physical and that all pre-participation forms have been completed. If these forms are not filled out completely the student-athlete will NOT be allowed to try out or participate with a Genesee athletic team. Once all pre- participation forms including a paper copy of the physical form are submitted and approved by one of the Athletic Trainers, the student-athlete will be fully cleared to participate in tryouts or practices.
