Altamirano Joins for fall
On April 30th, Gianna Altamirano committed to the Genesee Women's Soccer team for the 2025 season. Gianna is a 5'2" defender who started 3 years for the Oakfield-Alabama-Elba Varsity girls' soccer team. Altamirano has been awarded Genesee Region Honorable Mention, Defensive Player of the Week, 2024 Leadership Award, and Senior Select. She is an Honor Roll student and has been Student of the Month. She also is in Future Farmers of America for her high school and plans on majoring in Vet Tech at GCC.
Gianna will be joining her sister, Macy Altamirano, for her sophomore season, and will have the opportunity to play together one more time. Macy, who is also an OA alum, is not the only Genesee Cougar who has been recruited from the Oakfield-Alabama-Elba team. When the team went to Nationals in 2014, Maddie Potter (now Fowler), who is an Oakfield-Alabama alum, started in goal for the Cougars and won Regionals that year as well. Jaclyn Guzdek (now Rodriguez), another OA Alum, was the starting keeper in 2018 when the Cougars went to Nationals and won Regionals again. Two Elba Alums, Kelly Mickey and Lily Thompson, played for the Cougars when they won regionals and went to the National Tournament in 2021 and 2022. "We're excited to have another player from the OAE family, but we're even more excited to have sisters on the team again. The last two times we had sisters, we had back-to-back National Tournament appearances", stated Head Coach Jeff Reyngoudt. In 2022 and 2021, Chloe and Carly Barrett were on the team when the cougars' won regionals both years and went to Nationals. In 2021, the Condidorio sisters, Kiaya and Amara, were also on the team and helped lead them to a championship.
Jeff and his coaching staff have been meeting with a lot of recruits and have some more commitments coming up. The Cougars ended their 2024 season with an 8-3-2 record. If you are interested in trying out for next year's 2025 Genesee Cougars, please email Jeff Reyngoudt at jcreyngoudt@genesee.edu.
