Genesee Women's Soccer graduating sophomore, Diante Scheepers, has just announced that she is officially committing to Gannon University, where she will be studying Accounting and continuing her soccer career. Diante was a center midfielder for Genesee during her freshmen and sophomore season. She is also from Curacao, where she plays for their Women's National Team.

During her freshmen year, Diante started out as a forward, but was swiftly moved to the midfield due to her ball distribution, strength, and leadership. She played in the center alongside two sophomores and fit in perfectly with them. She was only one of three freshmen starters and lead the team to a Regional Title and National appearance in the Elite Eight in the fall of 2018. She finished the season with 15 goals and 20 assists. During her sophomore season, she was honored as a captain and continued to play in the midfield. She was a two-time All-Conference and a two-time All-Region player. She had 10 goals and 12 assists this past season. Scheepers also played lacrosse and quickly became a starting defender and an All-Conference player in that as well, where she helped lead the team to Regional Semi-Finals in 2019. Although Diante was unable to play her sophomore season of lacrosse due to Covid-19, she was already showing huge promise and was awarded the "Best Teammate Award". As for her GPA, she currently has a 3.56.

Not only is Scheepers a great soccer player but, she is also a great person. Sometimes being an international student, adjusting to our culture and lifestyle can be difficult, but for Diante it was not at all. She made friends so easily and was extremely open-minded and coachable. With her positive attitude and carefree spirit, she makes for a tremendous teammate and will be a tremendous accountant. Education has always been important to her and her coaching staff picked up on that the moment they met her. She has taken care of her teammates on and off the field, athletically, academically, and personally. She genuinely cares for everyone around her and is always picking up those who need a little extra boost. "I knew from the moment that I met Diante that she was an outstanding person and an even better athlete. We are so grateful that she had chosen us", says Head Coach Jeff Reyngoudt. "We will certainly miss her, but we are excited for what the future will look like for her", stated Reyngoudt.

The Athletic Department here at GCC is so extremely proud of Diante and she will be greatly missed. Good luck at Gannon University!
