Genesee Swims Well at NJCAA Swimming and Diving Championships

BUFFALO, NY… The Genesee Community College swimming and diving team competed at the 2019 NJCAA Swimming and Diving Championships hosted by Erie Community College's Burt Flickinger Athletic Center. The men's team finished seventh overall with 193 points. The women finished 10th overall with 66 points after four days of intense competition.

The first day saw Libby Richardson place sixth in the consolation race of the 200IM and placed 14th overall. Ferran Martinez placed second in the consolation race and 10th overall in the men's 200IM. The relay team of Ferran Martinez, Tyler Stachowiak, Ryan Mahaney, and Brandon Brown placed seventh in the men's 800 Free Relay.

Thursday saw the women's relay team of Libby Richardson, Natalie Amico, Rayelle Merrill and Ana Carolina Cerezer Pinto place ninth in the 200 Freestyle Relay. Libby Richardson placed 14th in the 50 Backstroke. Natalie Amico was 12th overall in the 100 Butterfly and was an alternate in the 50 Backstroke. The men's relay team of Evan Fix, Ryan Mahaney, Brandon Brown, and Carlitos Sanchez break the school record by three seconds and place sixth overall in the 200 Freestyle Relay. The 400 Relay team of Ryan Mahaney, Ferran Martinez, Brandon Brown, and Carlitos Sanchez placed seventh in the 400 Relay final and first in their heat. Ferran Martinez was seventh in the 400 IM Final. Ryan Mahaney finished fifth in the consolation race, 13th overall in the 100 Butterfly. Carlitos Sanchez placed eighth in the consolation race, 16th overall in the 50 Backstroke. Tyler Stachowiak finished 10th overall in the 200 Free. Evan Fix, Brandon Brown, and Weston Head placed 14th, 15th, and 16th overall respectively.

Friday saw Libby Richardson continuing her strong performances as she finished 11th in the 100IM Final. Ferran Martinez swam well and placed seventh in the 200 Fly Final. Ryan Mahaney finished 15th overall. Tyler Stachowiak placed 10th in the men's 500 Free. Brandon Brown and Weston Head finished 15th and 16th respectively.

Saturday saw the relay team of Libby Richardson, Natalie Amico, Ana Carolina Cerezer Pinto, and Rayelle Merrell placed eighth in the 400 Free Relay, taking off 19 seconds off their qualifying time. Natalie Amico finished 12th in the 50 Fly. Libby Richardson placed 13th in the 200 Backstroke Final. Ferran Martinez placed ninth in the men's 200 Breaststroke Final. The relay team of Tyler Stachowiak, Ferran Martinez, Brandon Brown, and Carlitos Sanchez placed seventh in the 400 Free Relay.
