Softball Wins High-Scoring Battle Against Corning CC
Genesee's softball team pulled out a dramatic 22-20 victory over Corning Community College in a game filled with offense from both teams. Caitlin Ryan was a standout performer, smashing 2 home runs and driving in 7 RBIs while scoring 5 runs herself. Shelby Scharfen contributed 3 hits and 2 RBIs, while Kaylynn O'Connell went 4-for-5 with 2 RBIs and hit a triple.
Sloan Jonathan and Maddie Hughson each added a home run, and Chloe Milles drove in 2 RBIs on 2 hits. The Cougars tallied 21 hits and drew 8 walks, scoring in six of the seven innings. Genesee's offense was relentless, with big innings in the second and third, scoring 6 and 7 runs, respectively.
Despite committing 4 errors, Genesee managed to hold off Corning's comeback attempts. The Cougars' defense tightened up late in the game, keeping Corning scoreless in the final inning to secure the victory. The team will look to build on this high-scoring win as they continue their season as they head into their training trip for their first match-up of the trip against Southeastern Community College-Whiteville at 1:00 PM & 3:00 PM for a double header.
