Genesee Drops Two to Corning

CORNING, NY – The Genesee Community College softball team lost two out of three games to the Corning Community College Red Barons Tuesday and Wednesday.  Genesee dropped game one 9-3, before taking game two 12-2 in five innings. The Cougars did drop the third and decisive game 18-5 in six innings.

Taylor Stefaniak led the way in game one on Tuesday for Genesee going two for two at the plate and scoring a run, and having a stolen base. Jaclyn Guzdek and Gillian Flint also scored for the blue and gold. Emily Kams pitched five innings giving up 11 hits and nine runs, while striking out five. Brittany Cole would enter the game, striking out one in her one inning of work. Game two on Tuesday was washed out.

Genesee's offense came on full display Wednesday afternoon as Genesee scored 12 runs in route to the victory. Bella Prest had three RBI's, while Erin Capotelli, Anna Kabel, and Jaclyn Guzdek each had two RBI's. Taylor Stefaniak scored twice as did Kennedy Lampart and Gillian Flint. Brittany Cole threw five innings of work striking out three.

In game two on Wednesday, Genesee enjoyed a 5-4 lead after the third inning, and then the Red Barons took control of the game scoring six runs off of Emily Kams and Brittany Cole. Kams would get the loss. Kennedy Lampart had two hits for Genesee as did Erin Capotelli and Bella Prest.

The Cougars stand at 9-13 on the season and 3-4 in Western New York Athletic Conference play, and 8-4in NJCAA Region III competition.  Genesee is home on Saturday as the Tompkins Cortland Community College Panthers come to town. The doubleheader is slated to begin at 1pm.
