BATAVIA, NY - Defenseman and team captain Sonny Simpson, a starter for the Cougars has signed on scholarship with Presbyerian College to play Division I Soccer.

During his sophomore year, Sonny earned recognition as an NJCAA 1st Team All American in Region 3, showcasing his outstanding performance on the field. He also secured spots on the 1st Team All Region Mid State and 1st Team All Conference, further solidifying his status as a top-tier player in his region. Over the course of his sophomore season, Simpson started all games he played in, while tallying a total of 7 goals, 4 assists and 18 points, on a .368 shot percentage.

Additionally, Sonny's commitment to academic success was evident as he earned the prestigious title of NJCAA Academic All American, highlighting his achievements in both the classroom and on the field.

Sonny's leadership extends beyond athletics, as he took on the role of Vice President of the Student Leadership Group at Genesee College during his sophomore year. 

In his freshman year, Simpson played 20 games, starting in 8 games. In those 20 games, simpson totaled 8 goals, 3 assists and 19 points on a .320 shot percentage. He also achieved NJCAA Academic All American status in Region 3. He also earned a place on the All Academic Team Mid State and All Region, showcasing his commitment to academic excellence in addition to his athletic achievements. 

Sonny also works within the Athletics office, where he puts in extra hours outside of the pitch and the classroom, helping out Kristen with whatever he can. He will attend Presbyterian in the fall of 2024, after he graduates from Genesee.
