Men's Soccer records first win over Erie CC

Batavia, NY- In the Men's Soccer home opener, Genesee dominated the first half leading the Kats 12-0. Freshman forward, Jan Bimmler (Cologne, Germany), opened the scoring for the Cougars in the fifth minute on a shot 20 yards out. Genesee scored two more goals in the fifth minute, the first from freshman forward, Malik Watson (Buffalo, New York) and the second from freshman midfielder, Casper Jaartsveld (Bussum, Netherlands). A Kats foul in the seventh minute lead to a Genesee penalty kick put away by sophomore forward, Unai Cruz (Andorra La Velle, Andorra).

The scoring continued in the 13th minute with Watson scoring his second goal of the night on a ball through the Kats back line from Cruz. A few short minutes later Cruz would add his second goal after a misplayed goal kick by Erie. Kyrell Kavanagh (Bradford, England) would score back-to-back goals in under two minutes to put the Cougars up 8-0. Watson would complete the hat trick scoring off short pass from Cruz, his second assist of the night, in the 24th minute. After being awarded a corner kick in the 25th minute, the Cougars had their initial shot pushed away by Kats goalkeeper, Zarif Abdullah. They regrouped and Kavanagh beat his defender and pushed the ball into the middle for Bimmler to tap in. Freshman midfielder Harrison Freason (Ilkeston, England) would score his first goal of the season in the 28th minute on a pass from Cruz to make it 11-0. After the initial shot on a corner kick was turned away, Freason would put away the deflection for another goal to end the scoring for the half at 12-0.

The Cougars continued their strong play in the second half, starting with a goal in the 57th minute from sophomore forward, Obie Casson (Macclesfield, England), after intercepting a pass between Erie players. Casson's second goal of the night would come shortly after, putting away a cross from Jake Wiseman (Arcade, New York). Wiseman would add another assist to score sheet on another set piece for the Cougars, put away with a header by sophomore forward Kaleem Remekie (Toronto, Canada) to finish off the scoring with a final score of 15-0.

Genesee outshot the Kats 35-1 and were awarded 11 corner kicks. Goalkeepers Oliver Alaviuhkola (Helsinki, Finland) and Alvaro Hermosa (Valladolid, Spain) split time in the net earning the clean sheet for Genesee Community College.

The Cougars will be back in action this Saturday, September 2nd as they travel to SUNY Broome
