Lacrosse Dominates in Championship to Win 7th Consecutive
BATAVIA, NY... Genesee's Men's Lacrosse team claimed the Region III North B Championship title with an impressive 24-5 victory over Herkimer College on Saturday, April 26, 2025. The game began with Herkimer taking a quick lead, scoring two early goals in the first quarter. However, the Cougars responded with determination, netting three consecutive goals to close the quarter with a 3-2 lead. From there, Genesee never looked back, showcasing teamwork throughout the game.
The second quarter proved to be pivotal, with Genesee scoring eight goals while conceding just one. By halftime, the Cougars held a commanding 11-3 advantage. The offensive contributions came from multiple players, demonstrating the depth of Genesee's lineup. Notable performances included Brian Freeman, who added two goals and assists during the quarter, and Luke Smeader, who scored and dominated faceoffs, winning 17 of 21 overall.
As the game progressed, Genesee continued to extend their lead in the third quarter, scoring six unanswered goals. Precision and teamwork were evident, with players like Jaeckle and Michael Hayes converting passes into critical goals. Hayes added to his tally in the third quarter with an assist from Jaxon Mohawk, further solidifying Genesee's dominance. The fourth quarter was no different, as Genesee rounded out their performance with seven more goals. Highlights included Tyler Jamieson's hat trick and Brandon John's goal, assisted by Bryce Hand, sealing the Cougars' decisive win.
The team's performance was bolstered by key contributors across the board. Evan Belter led the scoring with four goals, followed closely by Brian Freeman, Michael Hayes, and Landon Jaeckle, each contributing three goals. Freeman also tallied four assists, playing a critical role in the offensive strategy. On defense, goalkeeper Drew Helms stood strong, making 11 saves out of 16 shots on goal. The team collectively displayed hard work, winning 59 ground balls and causing 18 turnovers, which helped secure their victory.
Genesee's win was a true testament to their teamwork, effort, and skill.
