Batavia, NY... Men's Lacrosse took on Onondoga's Lazers in a highly anticipated match up on March 19th. Genesee put up a strong fight but came up just short in a 13-12 loss to Onondaga. Jaxon Mohawk and Brian Freeman led the Cougars' offense with two goals each, while Evan Belter and Luke Smeader also found the net twice. James Reif contributed with one goal and two assists, while Brandon John and Michael Hayes added to the scoring.
Faceoff play was a key strength for Genesee, as Luke Smeader won 17 of 23 draws, helping maintain possession. The Cougars also controlled the ground game, collecting 43 ground balls compared to Onondaga's 29. Despite their defensive effort, Genesee was unable to hold off Onondaga's attack, which found key goals in the closing minutes.
Goalkeeper Drew Helms made 18 saves in a strong performance, keeping Genesee within striking distance throughout the game. The Cougars will look to regroup and build off this close contest as they prepare for their next matchup at Mohawk Valley Community College on March 30th.
