Cougars Set for NJCAA National Championship Game
BATAVIA, NY... The Genesee Men's Basketball program is ready to go head-to-head with Dallas-North Lake in the NJCAA DIII Men's National Finals, today at 6pm ET at Rock Valley College in Rockford, IL.
The two-seed Cougars cruised to a 96-78 victory over 10-seed Joliet Junior College in the quarterfinals of the NJCAA National Tournament. Jalen Willis led all scorers with 20 points. Brett Talbert finished with 17 points and Antwan Williams added another 14 points for the Cougars in the win. Pape Tunkara and Legacy Wallace also reached double-digits, finishing with 13 and 11 points, respectively.
In the semifinal matchup against six-seed Dallas-Eastfield, the Cougars were able to survive the instant classic thriller to advance to the NJCAA Finals with a 77-76 win over the Harvester Bees. Jalen Willis led all scorers 36 points and grabbed 9 rebounds. Antwan Williams finished with 10 points and pulled in 11 rebounds to help send Genesee to the National Championship Finals.
The Cougars are riding a 20-game win streak into the Finals showdown with four-seed Dallas-North Lake. The Blazers survived two close contests against the five-seed (and fellow Region III member) Onondaga and eight-seed Rock Valley on their way to the final matchup with Genesee.
