BROOME, N.Y. — Genesee Community College exploded for 19 runs on 22 hits to rout SUNY Broome Community College 19–10 in a high-scoring game in game 1.
After being held scoreless through the first two innings, Genesee's bats caught fire with a staggering 10-run third inning. The Cougars would tack on runs in the fourth, sixth, and seventh innings to pull away, capitalizing on six errors committed by SUNY Broome.
Sophomore Cooper Hassall led the offensive charge for Genesee, going a perfect 6-for-6 at the plate with 5 RBIs, including a home run and a double. Wyatt Argentieri also had a big day, driving in four runs on three hits, including two doubles, and scoring four times.
Anthony Esposito contributed a 3-for-4 day with 3 RBIs and 2 stolen bases, while Dallas Vaughan added two hits and 3 RBIs of his own. In total, Genesee stole 9 bases on the day and showed aggressive baserunning throughout.
On the mound, Genesee used a committee approach with Tyler Marino, Aidan McBride, Evan Raniewicz, and Aidan Voss all seeing action. Marino got the bulk of the work, throwing three innings and allowing four runs on five hits. Despite some pitching struggles, Genesee held on, thanks in part to timely double plays and solid defense from Damian Rangel and Aidan Voss.
Game Two saw another offensive explosion from Genesee, but it was Tyler Laffin's dominant performance on the mound that stole the spotlight. Laffin pitched a five-inning no-hitter, allowing just two walks and striking out four in a masterful effort. He faced just 16 batters and never allowed SUNY Broome to find any rhythm offensively.
At the plate, Genesee piled on 17 runs on 13 hits. Dane Dombrowski continued his hot streak, going 3-for-3 with an RBI and a double, while Wyatt Argentieri added a 2-for-4 effort with a double and three RBIs. Ryan Higgins blasted a home run and drove in two, and Cooper Hassall notched a double and three RBIs of his own. Lucas Gelinas contributed with a two-RBI game, and Brian Tisa added another RBI to his weekend tally. The Cougars showed patience and power, drawing nine walks to go along with their timely hits.
The combination of elite pitching and relentless offense made this doubleheader a statement outing for Genesee, as they aim to carry this momentum forward as they take on Corning CC tomorrow for a double header.
