BATAVIA, NY... Baseball hosted Finger Lakes Community College on April 13 for a Saturday doubleheader but came up short in both contests. In Game 1, the Cougars managed just three hits in a 9–1 loss. Game 2 showed improved offense, but Genesee was edged out 9–8 in a back-and-forth battle.
Game 1 Recap: FLCC 9, Genesee 1
Genesee struggled to get going at the plate, collecting just three hits across seven innings. Tarek Emara, Anthony Esposito, and Ryan Higgins each recorded a single. Aidan McBride knocked in the Cougars' lone run in the bottom of the seventh.
Starting pitcher Nicholas Freville went 4.1 innings, allowing seven hits and nine runs—though only two were earned—while striking out four. Errors hurt the Cougars, as they committed five in the field. Andrew Davis and Cooper Hassall pitched in relief, with Hassall striking out three batters in 1.2 innings.
Finger Lakes scored in four different innings, with a six-run fourth proving to be the difference. Their center fielder hit a home run and drove in three. The visiting team finished with seven hits and stole four bases. Their starting pitcher allowed only one run and struck out four in a complete game.
Game 2 Recap: FLCC 9, Genesee 8
Genesee's bats came alive in the second game, collecting 13 hits and taking an early 6–2 lead after three innings. Patricio Garcia went 3-for-4 with two RBIs and a walk, while Dwayne Dabian added three hits, including a double. Anthony Esposito and Aidan McBride each had two hits and scored twice. Lucas Feldman doubled and drove in two runs as well.
Despite the offensive effort, the Cougars couldn't hold the lead. Finger Lakes chipped away with two runs in the fifth, one in the sixth, and eventually plated four runs in the top of the seventh to go up 9–8.
On the mound, Aidan Voss started and allowed two runs in 2.2 innings. Yamato Onozaki pitched 2.1 innings in relief, giving up three runs and striking out two. Jaxen Lehr took the loss after surrendering four runs—only one of them earned—in the final frame.
The guys look to shift momentum as they take on Monroe CC at home on Monday, April 14th.
