BATAVIA, NY...Genesee Community College hosted SUNY Niagara for a home doubleheader on Saturday, delivering two highly competitive matchups. In Game 1, the Cougars rallied late but came up just short in an 8–6 loss. Game 2 saw another gritty effort, with Genesee putting together a big sixth-inning push before ultimately falling 9–7.
GAME 1:
Genesee Community College came up short in a tight 8–6 loss to SUNY Niagara, despite a strong offensive effort. Patricio Garcia led the way at the plate, going 3-for-4 with 2 RBIs, while Dwayne Dabian, Cooper Hassall, and Damian Rangel each drove in a run. Genesee totaled 9 hits and drew 3 walks, but couldn't overcome early scoring by Niagara.
On the mound, Shawn Kimball allowed 7 runs (4 earned) over 4 innings, while Jaxen Lehr pitched the final 3, giving up just 1 run. Genesee rallied for 2 runs in the 7th, but Niagara held on behind Aidan Paul's 6 innings of work and Mark Holm's save. Despite the loss, Genesee played clean defensively, committing just one error.
GAME 2:
In Game 2 of the doubleheader against SUNY Niagara, Genesee Community College came up just short in a hard-fought 9–7 loss. The Cougars built an early lead with runs in each of the first three innings, including an RBI double by Anthony Esposito, who also scored three times and added a stolen base. Patricio Garcia drove in two runs with a pair of hits, and Dwayne Dabian, Damian Rangel, and Wyatt Argentieri each added key RBIs.
Genesee made a strong push with a four-run sixth inning, sparked by a mix of walks, aggressive base running, and timely hits. On the mound, five different pitchers combined to limit the damage for most of the game, with Nicholas Freville providing 3.2 solid innings to start. Despite a competitive showing at the plate and drawing eight walks, the Cougars couldn't overcome Niagara's mid-game scoring.
The Cougars look to build off the loss as they travel to TOmpkins Cortland Community College for a double header against the Panthers on April 4th.
