Russ Matt, Fl...Genesee's Men's Baseball team took down the reigning region III champions of Herkimer College and had a dominant performance against Bunker Hill CC.
GAME 1:
Genesee secured a 6-3 win over Herkimer, improving to 12-5 on the season. The Cougars struck early, scoring two runs in the first inning and adding three more in the third to take control.
Anthony Esposito scored twice, while Patricio Garcia and Cooper Hassall each recorded an RBI. Damian Rangel collected two hits, and Dwayne Dabian stole two bases to help keep the offense moving.
On the mound, Yamato Onozaki pitched a complete game, allowing three runs on six hits with seven strikeouts and one walk over seven innings. He kept Herkimer's offense in check, stranding multiple runners in key situations.
Herkimer managed to score one run in the third and two in the sixth but was unable to close the gap. Justin Peralta took the loss, surrendering five runs (four earned) over five innings while striking out seven. Zowen Collins and Henry Tolentino pitched the final two innings, allowing one additional run.
Game 2:
Genesee took control in the middle innings to earn a 10-1 win over Bunker Hill. After three scoreless innings, the Cougars exploded for four runs in the fourth and six more in the fifth to put the game out of reach. Ryan Higgins led the offense with two RBIs, while Greg Rightmyer, Aidan McBride, and Lucas Feldman also drove in runs. McBride and Cody Costello combined for four stolen bases, adding pressure on the basepaths.
On the mound, Andrew Davis pitched four scoreless innings, allowing two hits and striking out three. Evan Raniewicz, Quinten Rigters, and Nicholas Freville combined for three strong innings of relief, surrendering just one run on two hits while striking out three.
Genesee played error-free defense and took advantage of nine walks drawn at the plate. The Cougars look to carry this momentum into their next matchup at SUNY Niagara on March 25th for a double header.
