Genesee Community College split the first two games of their opening round postseason series Saturday, setting up a deciding third contest on Sunday. Anthony Brotz opened the scoring with a single, then Wyatt Argentieri Wyatt Argentieri standing out with an impressive 3 hits and 3 RBIs.
The Cougars held strong against a strong as Ryan Higgins extended with a crucial two-run single. Casey Funk and Ryota Haga both drove in a run, which added to the scoring effort. However, despite these individual highlights, the team struggled to string together consistent scoring opportunities, the Spartans would hit hard with runs of their own, taking a 14-6 win over the Cougars
Starting pitcher Julian Jones, despite showing resilience, encountered significant challenges, pitching for 5 innings. Jones conceded 8 hits and 12 runs, with 10 earned, while issuing 3 walks and striking out 3 batters.
Game 2:
Things would heat up for the Cougars in game two as they looked to bounce back after a rough game 1 performance. In an absolute domination of a performance, the Cougars only conceded 5 hits, with no runs. Making the final score 9-0 in Genesee's favor.
The hitting lineup came out swinging, Anthony Brotz leading the charge with 2 hits and 2 RBIs. Robert McCullough and Ryan Higgins displayed their hitting prowess with multiple hits and RBIs, while Ryota Haga, Cody Costello , and Patricio Garcia added to the offensive onslaught with runs of their own.
