Cougars Split the Day - Sherman Gets 600th Win

Batavia, NY - Baseball took on the Erie Kats in a double header match-up in the afternoon of Sunday, April 21st. They would go on to split the day with the Kats, dropping game one 5-15 and taking the final game 15-10. With that win, it would give Head Coach Skip Sherman his well earned 600th win in his career as head of the program.

Game 1:

It would take to the 3rd inning for the cougars to score, with Brian Tisa singling to get on base, then Anthony Brotz to walk. Following that, Patricio Garcia hit a double, allowing Brotz and Tisa to advance for a double BRI. At the top of the 4th, the cougars kept it close. Casey Funk would walk, and Quinten Rigters soon followed with a single, the Brotz taking a walk to first, advancing Funk and Rigters. Wyatt Argentier singled, allowing Rigters and Funk to score. Rion Kojima doubled and batted in Brotz. That would be the last bit for the Cougars, as the Kats would go on a run to end the game in 6 innings.

Tyler Noel pitched 4 innings, striking out 4, Mike Birkhimer would relieve Noel, pitching 2 innings and striking out 2.

Final score - Kats: 15 Cougars: 5

Game 2: 

The momentum for the Cougars would shift, with a chip on their shoulder from the previous game, looking to split. 

The 1st inning, the Kats would make an early push taking a 0-5 lead but would strike out the last Kat swinging.

At the top of the 2nd, Patricio Garcia singled to get on base, Casey Funk walked. Cody Costello would single, allowing Garcia to score and soon after, he would steal for second. Ryan Haga singled and batted in Costello & Funk. Tisa singled and Haga advanced, Argentier batted in both Tisa and Haga, making the score 5-5.

Top of the 4th, the Cougars ran it in 4 times, with 2 hits, 1 error and 1 LOB.

Top of the 5th, would give 2 more runs, 2 hits, 0 errors and 2 LOB.

The 7th inning would close out the double header, as the cougars took over. Patricio doubled, allowing Rion Kojima to score, Costello singled, then advanced to second, batting in Garcia while Funk advanced to third. On a wild pitch, Funk sealed the deal with a run into home. 

With that win, it gave Head Coach Skip Sherman his 600th win as Head of the program. Congratulations to Skip and thank you for all that you do!
