Men's Baseball dominates Barons

Batavia, NY - Genesee Community College took down Corning Community College in a double header, sweeping the day.

Game 1

In a close matchup, the Cougars slipped through with a score of 7-6 in favor of Genesee. In the first inning, the Cougars would go on a spree of runs, making it 0-4. Corning would later answer with their own four runs in an attempt to make it a closer game, but Genesee would end up running it in twice.

Anthony Brotz emerged as a pivotal figure in the lineup, securing a crucial double and contributing significantly with 2 runs and an RBI. Ryoto Haga's consistency shone through as he delivered 2 hits, driving in an essential run for the team. Robert McCullough amassed 2 hits, & Yamato Onozaki notching a hit and an impressive three RBIs, including a sacrifice fly.

The team exhibited a relentless approach to baserunning, with multiple players, including Brotz, Argentieri, McCullough, Garcia, and Onozaki, showcasing their speed and agility by successfully executing stolen base attempts. Dwayne Dabian set the tone early, delivering a solid outing with 3.1 innings pitched, allowing 3 hits, 4 runs (3 earned), while striking out 3 and issuing 4 walks. Joseph Blackwell provided valuable relief, pitching 1.0 inning, allowing no hits but conceding 1 run (earned) with 3 walks and 1 strikeout. Casey Funk took to the mound, pitching 2.2 innings, allowing 3 hits and just 1 run (earned), while tallying 3 strikeouts and issuing 2 walks.

Game 2

The Cougars would look to set the tone early on in a response to the close game prior. Taking it home 12 times to a measly 2 from Corning. Ending the day in a two game win.

Brotz tallying an impressive 3 hits, including a double, and crossing the plate 4 times while driving in a run. Patricio Garcia collecting 3 hits, including a crucial double, and driving in 3 runs to contribute, & Ryan Higgins with a perfect 3-for-3 performance at the plate, including 3 hits and a remarkable 3 RBIs. Onozaki notching 2 hits, including a triple, and driving in a run.

Onozaki led the charge from the mound, delivering a solid outing with 4.0 innings pitched. Despite allowing 5 hits, Onozaki limited to just 2 earned runs while recording 4 strikeouts.

The cougars take to the field for a rematch against the Barons on Saturday, March 30th at Corning CC, starting at 12:00 PM for Game 1.
