Genesee Baseball Sweeps Alfred State JV

BATAVIA, NY – Three local pitchers and three home runs helped spark Genesee Community College to a 13-3 and 11-1 sweep of Alfred State College Pioneers JV Sunday afternoon. With the wins, GCC improves to 16-8 on the season, and remain perfect on their home field.

Colin Noeth (Byron-Bergen) improved to 3-1 on the season as he struck out seven in four innings, scattering three hits in the first game. Anthony Kanaval, who is 2-0 on the season, threw the final two innings, striking out four and allowing one hit.

In the second game, Niagara-University-bound Tyler Prospero (Batavia Notre Dame) improved to 4-1 on the season with a complete game two-hitter, striking out eight.

At the plate for GCC, John Faynor, who entered the game hitting .500, went 3-for-5 with a double and stolen base while Bryan Fontanez had five hits in two games with a double, 3 RBI's and stole two bases.

Eliel Martinez-Viera blasted a solo home run to start the second game and had four hits, scored five runs, doubled and stole three bases. Briann Castillo also hit a solo home run for the Cougars while Deion Rosalia had a two-run home run, doubled and drove in five runs. Elizam De Jesus had two doubles and 2 RBI's, Frankie Santiago (Franklin) had three hits, four stolen bases, drive in three runs and scored three times while Christian Torres had two hits.

"The pitching was outstanding, and the hitters were prepared and ready to play today which made the difference," said Genesee head coach Skip Sherman. "We have very tough conference games the rest of the way."

The Cougars return to NJCAA Region III Division III action Tuesday afternoon at Finger Lakes Community College. First pitch from Canandaigua, NY is scheduled for 2 pm.
