KISSIMMEE, Fla. - After giving up nine runs in two games to start the season, Genesee Community College head baseball coach Skip Sherman went to experience on Thursday. Sherman handed the ball to sophomore Zack Zinck who went out and threw a 1-hitter over six innings with 10 strikeouts in an 8-0 win over Hibbing Community College (Minn.).

Zinck, who is from Bridgewater, Canada and went 4-3 last season, gave up a walk to the first batter of the game and a single in the fifth. He struck out five in a row at one point. Tyler Prospero (Batavia Notre Dame) shut the door with a perfect seventh striking out two.

"Not only did Zack have all of his pitches working, had had his spots perfectly, in and out of the strike zone," said Sherman. "Zack and Tyler threw a total of 97 pitches for the game and their performance was something our freshmen pitchers had a chance to learn from."

At the plate for Genesee (2-1), shortstop Jordi Agosto was 3-for-3 with an RBI, Jacob MacLeod went 2-for-3 with a double and drove in four runs while John Faynor (Northstar) had an RBI double, Gabe Diaz (run), Deion Rosalia, Frankie Santiago, and Rodolfo Rodriguez all singled.

Genesee takes on Mesabi Ridge CC and Vermillion CC on Friday.
