Kathleen Gurak serves GCC as a full time Associate Professor in Health, Physical Education department.  She began at GCC as an adjunct instructor-while teaching and coaching in the K-12 Public School setting. Along with teaching and coaching, Gurak has also served in K-12 administration as a middle and high school assistant principal, athletic director, interim elementary principal, and as a middle school principal.  During her tenure as an athletic director, Gurak received national recognition as a Certified Master Athletic Administrator through the NIAAA-one of only eight AD’s in New York to receive this honor.  In 2007, Gurak began full time at GCC, and in 2017 was honored with the SUNY Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Teaching.

At GCC, Gurak has been active in developing new courses for Health, PE and Sport Management; revamping the coaching courses; developing rubrics for the HPE courses; and has served on several committees. Gurak has also been active in NYS AHPERD as a member of the executive council, and Nationally as an advocate for HPE.

Gurak graduated with a BS degree in physical education from Brockport State, where she also obtained her Master’s degree in Education and her CAS in Educational Administration-graduating Summa Cum Laude.  She has been awarded a fellowship to study for a Doctoral Degree in Educational Administration at the Warner School of Education at the University of Rochester.  In 2017, Gurak was honored to be awarded the SUNY Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Teaching. Gurak also maintains professional lifetime memberships in NYSAHPERD, SHAPE of America, and NIAAA.
