Cougars Complete the Upset in 2OT Thriller

GCC upsets Herkimer, 2-1

BATAVIA, NY… #6 Genesee Men's Soccer completed the upset of #2 Herkimer College in a double overtime thriller, 2-1.

The Cougars broke the 0-0 time late in the first half off a goal by Morgan Williams, assisted by Nathan Gilhooly. Williams' goal was his sixth of the year and his fourth in the last three matches.

Herkimer would tie the game back up at 1-1 early in the second half, thanks to a goal from Mitchell Bourdeau, assisted by Ali Somow. The Cougars and Generals would keep the score locked at 1-1 for the remainder of regulation and through the first ten-minute overtime period.

With national and regional ranking implications on the line, the match moved into the second overtime period. Marc McCann sealed the game for the Cougars about halfway through the period, breaking the tie and securing the upset victory for Genesee. Genesee improves their season record to 8-0-1.

Kyle McLeish locked down the home net for Genesee, making ten saves on eleven shots in the 103 minutes of action.

The Cougars will take a couple days off before they go head-to-head with SUNY Broome Community College on October 6th at 6:30pm in Batavia.
