Watkis Scores Twice as GCC Improves to 5-0

GCC defeats HVCC 10-2

BATAVIA, NY… The Genesee Men's Soccer program keeps their undefeated season alive as they dominate Hudson Valley at home, 10-2.

 

Romaine Watkis got the Cougars on the scoreboard early as he tapped in his first goal of the game just 61 seconds into play. Joe Waters (assisted by Morgan Williams), Marc McCann, Nathan Gilhooly, and Morgan Williams (assisted by Watkis) would add the next goals for the Cougars to grow the lead to 5-0 just 17 minutes into the game. Waters (assisted by Lee Jones) and Watkis (assisted by Williams) would add their second goals of the game late in the first half to swell the lead to 7-0 going into halftime.

 

Genesee would add two more goals before Hudson Valley tallied their first score of the day to bring the score to 9-1. Nearly 20 seconds later Hudson Valley added their second score of the day as Matthew Beattie snuck another one in for the Vikings to trim the Cougars lead to 9-2. Genesee was not finished however, as Nabeel Rehman added the final goal of the game at 71:00. The Cougars would go on to win this match, 10-2.

 

Kyle McLeish played 45 shutout minutes in goal in the first half. Augusto Rivero Fernandez played the final 45 minutes in net for Genesee, allowing two goals.

 

The Cougars are back at home on September 21 as they welcome Bryant & Stratton (Syracuse) to Batavia. Cougars vs Bobcats is set for 6pm.
