Volleyball Takes One at Herkimer College Pod

HERKIMER, NY… The Genesee Community College volleyball program went 1-2 at the Herkimer College Generals Pod match Saturday to even their season record at 8-8. The Cougars went 3-1 against the host Generals (25-18, 25-16, 24-26, 25-22) after losing to Fulton-Montgomery CC (25-14, 23-25, 28-26, 25-19, 16-18) and Mohawk Valley CC (27-29, 20-25, 25-11, 25-20, 11-15) in five sets each.

In the match against the Generals, Ana Carolina Cerezer Pinto led the way with 16 kills. Morgan Mathis had 15 kills. Grace Masse led the team in assists with 18 with Katie Alsworth having 12. Alexis Eighmey led the team in digs with 15 and Ana Carolina Cerezer Pinto had 12 digs.

Genesee won the fourth game against Fulton-Montgomery to force the five set, with the Cougars coming up short. Ana Carolina Cerezer Pinto had 20 kills and Morgan Mathis had 13. Carolina Cerezer Pinto also had 15 digs. Neely Abrams had 16 assists and Grace Masse had 19 to lead the team.

Against Mohawk Valley Community College, the Blue and Gold showed resilience by coming back from being down 2-0 to force the fifth set. Ana Carolina Cerezer Pinto and Morgan Mathis each had 14 kills to lead Genesee. Grace Masse and Neely Abrams had a combined 39 assists for Genesee. Kaitlyn VanSkiver had three aces. Aima Kamo had 10 digs.

The volleyball program returns home on Thursday, October 10 for an NJCAA Region III contest against the Finger Lakes Community College Lakers. Game time from inside the Anthony T Zambito Gymnasium on the Batavia campus is scheduled for 6pm. The game will be streamed live on www.geneseeathletics.com
