The Genesee Community College volleyball team recorded their greatest comeback of the young season after falling behind on the road by two sets against Mercyhurst North East, Sept. 28 in Erie, Pa.

The Cougars went on to take the next three sets for a 3-2 win after getting out-scored 50-32 in the first two sets. Genesee's rally began with a reversal as they took the third and fourth sets by a combined 50-32 – the same margin the Saints had in the first pair of sets.

With the match on the line in the fifth and final set, the Cougars extended it with a 17-15 win for the victory.

Leading the way for the Cougars was current GCC Female Athlete of the Week Tommi Rutherford with 26 digs, while Sha-Ony Obispa recorded a dozen kills. Nao Maeda collected three aces and Isabella Slocum registered seven blocks.

The win keeps the Cougars above .500 as they prepare for another weekend of pod play. Genesee will travel to Johnstown to face host Fulton-Montgomery, Herkimer, and Hudson Valley on Sept. 30.
