Cougars Women’s Soccer Team Upsets No. 6 Nassau

Women's soccer team at half time vs. No. 6 Nassau

The Genesee Community College women's soccer team continued to roll with its second win in as many days. This time, however, it was over National Junior College Athletic Association nationally-ranked Nassau Community College.

The Cougars needed just six minutes to dispose of the NJCAA D-III No. 6 team in the country after Katline Cartwright received a long boot from goalkeeper Jaclyn Guzdek for the game-winner. It was the first of seven Cougar goals en route to a 7-0 shutout win in the Coliseum Classic at Herkimer College Aug. 26.

Cartwright added two more goals for the hat trick, while Guzdek recorded 11 saves at the opposite end for the clean sheet.

Genesee took a 6-0 first-half lead before adding a single tally in the second half to cap the scoring.

Diante Scheepers continued her impressive weekend with a goal and three assists against the Lions as both she and Cartwright share the team scoring lead with a dozen points apiece after just two games.

Returning NJCAA All-American Miko Yamashita netted her first goals of the season with a pair, while Alexa Jordan rounded out the goal scoring with her second goal of the season in as many games.

Leah Czechowski and Anna Kabel also added an assist each in the victory over the Lions.

The Cougars will next play its home opener Aug. 29 at 6 p.m. against NJCAA D-I Monroe Community College, who is currently ranked No. 10 at the D-I level.
