Genesee Ranked No. 5 in Region III Women's Soccer Tournament

The Genesee Community College women's soccer team will compete for a Region III Division III women's soccer championship as the No. 5 seed after ending the regular season with a 12-5 record, including a 10-3 record in regional play. Genesee is trying for its fourth regional title in school history and first since 2014.

The Cougars will travel to No. 4 seed Herkimer College for a semifinals matchup on Tuesday. Game time is schedule for 4 p.m. Genesee lost its regular season meeting against Herkimer 3-1 on Oct. 15 and compiled a 5-1 road record this fall.

GCC was ranked as high as No. 3 nationally this year, but fell out of the top-ten after finishing the regular season 4-4. The Cougars have allowed a total of just 14 goals this year, tied for the eighth fewest in the country.

Sophomore Gabriella Garcea leads Genesee in total points with 25, and goals with seven, including five game-winning tallies. Fellow sophomore Sarah Williams tallied 20 points, scoring six goals and assisting on eight.

The Genesee defense, led by goalkeeper Katlynne Tubo has held opponents to 0.81 goals per contest. Tubo recorded 10 shutouts this season, one shy of the single season school record, and set the record for career shutouts with 19.
