Genesee Comes Back Twice and Defeats North Country in OT

BATAVIA, NY… The Genesee Community College women's lacrosse team came back not once, but twice to defeat the North Country Community College Saints 10-9 in overtime on Saturday afternoon.

After being down 4-0 in the first ten minutes of action, Hannah Kirisits got her first of two goals on the afternoon to cut the Saints lead in half. Then Ashley Barclay would score shorthanded to make it a one-goal game, and eventually Genesee would tie the game on a goal from Bri Heers. North Country would score two more goals to have a 6-4 lead at halftime.

In the second half, North Country again would jump on Genesee , getting a five goal advantage and once again, the Cougars showed recilliance and would start the comeback. Bri Heers would score her second of the day. Then Ashley Barclay would make the game 9-6. Rachel Ladd scored to make it 9-7 after a feed from Riley Marconi. Barclay would complete the hat trick off a free position shot to cut the lead to one. Then Bri Heers would tie the game with 2:25 left in regulation for her third goal of the game.

In the overtime period, the Cougars pressured the Saints throughout the period and Leah Czechowski would score the game winner after a pass from Bri Heers.

The Cougars (3-2) and the Saints (1-1) will play again on Sunday at noon.
