Women’s Basketball Team Opens Season Against Lazers

GCC Women's Basketball - player moves past defender on court

The Genesee Community College women's basketball team dropped their home opener to visiting Onondaga Community College 74-50.

The Cougars rebounded from a rough start to play Onondaga within five points in the second half 30-25, but it was the 19-point lead the Lazers created in the first half that proved too much to overcome despite a spirited second-half.

Rosalyn Sealey was Genesee's leading scorer with 15 points, while Chevaneese Millington had a team-high seven boards. Reika Murota added three assists and TaLia Burgess had the hot hand from outside the arc going 2-for-4 for six points.

It was the opening game for both teams as Genesee heads to the road this weekend in the Crossover Classic at Corning Community College. The Cougars will start with a game against host Corning Nov. 4 at 11 a.m. before facing SUNY Broome Nov. 5 at 3 p.m.
