Swimming & Diving Compete at Erie Invitational

Buffalo, NY- Genesee Community College’s Men’s and Women’s swimming and diving teams returned to action for their first competition of 2024 in the Erie Winter Invitational, hosted by Erie Community College.

 

On the Men’s side, Joshua Beardsley led with a fourth place finish in both the 200yd IM (2:26.29), the 100yd butterfly(1:04.47) and a sixth place finish in the 100yd breaststroke (1:17.70). Ethan Merrill had a personal record during the meet within the 50yd freestyle, placing ninth with a time of 29.60, as well as a 1:08.58 finish in the 100yd freestyle, and a 1:26.57 finish in the 100yd breaststroke. Austin Layne snatched a PR for himself as well, dropping two seconds in the 50yd freestyle with a time of 34.46.

 

On the Women’s side, Grace Gregoire shined in the 1-Meter diving, going from a 99.9 score in her first meet, to scoring a 144.05 at the invitational, just off of national qualifying. Mackenzie Winnie also swam well in the 50yd freestyle, with fourth place finish and a time of 38.86. Just off of her season best.

 

The Cougars will stay at home for their next meet as they host the WNYAC meet on Wednesday, January 24th @ 6PM.
