Cougar Softball’s Ubukata Commits to University of Hawaii

Genesee Community College softball team member Shiori Ubukata signed a letter of intent to transfer and accept a scholarship to the University of Hawaii at Hilo for next season.

"Shiori signed a national letter of intent and scholarship agreement to play for us and will be joining us in August 2018 for the 2018-19 softball season," said head University of Hawaii at Hilo head softball coach Callen Perreira, who is one of the most accomplished coaches in the NCAA Division-II Pacific West Conference (PacWest), after having taken the Vulcans to a fourth-place Softball World Series finish during his tenure.

"We look forward to having Shiori in our program we know that she will bring a good attitude and work ethic," the veteran Vulcan softball caoch of more than 700 collegiate wins said.

The native of Tokyo, Japan; Ubukata has been the Cougars' premiere player this season in leading the team in almost every offensive category.

To date, her season batting average is at .400 with an on-base percentage of .455. The infielder has a fielding percentage of between .910 and .920 that encompass both overall and conference play, while leading the team in hits and scoring almost one-third of the team's runs.
