Men’s Soccer gets the win vs. SUNY Broome on the Road

Binghamton, New York- The Genesee Men's Soccer team scored six goals in the Saturday afternoon contest vs. SUNY Broome. The six goals came from four different players and were split evenly between the two halves. Sophomore forward, Kaleem Remekie (Toronto, Canada), would get the scoring started after freshmen forward, Malik Watson (Buffalo, New York) drove towards the endline and passed it back for Remekie to put away. Freshmen forward, Jan Bimmler (Cologne, Germany), would beat the goalie one-on-one after receiving a pass from Sophomore defender, Sonny Simpson (Perth, Scotland), that slipped through the defensive line of the Hornets. Watson and Remekie teamed up again to score the third and final goal of the half, scoring an almost identical goal to the first.

The Cougars continued their strong play in the second half, with a goal on a set piece. Watson recorded his third assist of the afternoon, putting a corner kick right on target for 6'3" Simpson to finish off with a header into the top left corner. Simpson would record back-to-back goals on a corner kick again taken by Watson, this time Simpson putting the ball into the bottom corner. The sixth and final goal would come from a miscue on a loose ball by the Hornets' goalkeeper that would be picked up by Simpson. Simpson put a shot on frame for the Cougars and had it pushed away by the goalkeeper. The rebound would land at the feet of freshmen midfielder, Charles Forkell (Victor, New York), for him to put away.

Goalkeepers Oliver Alaviuhkola (Helsinki, Finland) and Alvaro Hermosa (Valladolid, Spain) would once again split the bill in net, earning yet another clean sheet for Genesee Community College.

The Cougars are on the road again Wednesday September 6th in a match against the Jayhawks of Jamestown Community College.
