Genesee Men's Soccer Announces All-Decade Team

National Champion Men's Soccer Team

Men's soccer Head Coach Ken Gavin has announced the team's first ever All Decade team for the season 2010 -2019.

After a lot of thought and speaking with others the team is as follows.

  1. Description: David Ormiston Dave Ormiston – Chichester, England ('16, '17)   Dave had an outstanding two seasons at GCC culminating with a National Title. He showed a tremendous level of consistency over his two years and maintained great focus in games where he did not necessarily have much to do. A terrific communicator he organized his defense constantly. These attributes alongside some brilliant goalkeeping saw Dave win All-Conference and All-Region during his time at GCC and pulled off the save of the season in the National Championship game. After his time at GCC he moved on to Eckerd College on a scholarship.

  2. Description: Glenn Holmes Glenn Holmes – Kildare, Ireland ('16,'17) Glenn had an outstanding two seasons with GCC. Having come in as a central midfielder Glenn was switched to center back where he dominated over two seasons. Glenn was the National Title winning captain in 2017 and started in every game of the season. Glenn was the winner of numerous awards in his 2 seasons including All-conference, All- Region and All-American. On top of these awards Glenn was longtime assistant coach Jim Cody's choice as player of the decade.

  3. Josh Gray Josh Gray – Norwich, England ('10, '11) Josh was a tremendous all-around athlete upon his arrival and continued to excel on the pitch. He was one of the best if not the best set-piece takers of the decade.  Josh played in central midfield as a freshman before reverting to his more natural position as a left back during his time with Genesee. Josh was All-Conference and All-Region as well as being a runner up in the 2011 National Championship. Josh transferred on scholarship to Slippery Rock after his two years at GCC.

  4. Sam Hall Sam Hall – Leicester, England ('17, '18) Sam is the very definition of a man who can play anywhere on the pitch and excel whilst doing so. During his time at GCC Sam played as a forward, a central midfielder and capped off his time as an All-Conference, All-Region and All-American caliber Center Back. Sam transferred to Chowan University on scholarship after graduation. In his freshman year Sam won the National Title and in the semifinal that season Sam played for 8 seconds whilst carrying a bad injury and managed to score!

  5. Declan Brennan Declan Brennan – Dublin, Ireland ('11,'12) Declan was a towering presence (6' 4") and outstanding center back during his two seasons with us. Deco's calmness and defensive skills helped propel GCC to their first men's soccer finals. He was the epitome of calmness on the ball and the back.  Declan was an All-Conference and All-Region player who transferred on scholarship to Slippery Rock before moving to play for Athlone Town in the League of Ireland.

  6. Jonny Bonner Jonny Bonner – Buncrana, Ireland ('11) Jonny transferred into us after one season at High Point University (NCAA D1) and excelled in midfield. 7. Peter Keegan Peter Keegan – Dublin, Ireland ('10, '11) Peter captained GCC to its first ever men's soccer national final in his second year with us. During his time at GCC Peter was an All-Conference, All-Region and All-American selection. Peter's all action, box-to-box midfield style saw him lead his team by example as he drove them on with his will to win.  When Peter graduated from Genesee he turned down a number of scholarship offers to return home to play for Waterford United in the League of Ireland. Peter played up front for Waterford with his strike partner Sean Maguire (who currently plays for the Ireland national team). Peter unfortunately suffered a very bad knee injury in his second season which saw him retire from football. Peter is coach Ken Gavin's choice as player of the decade.

  8. Rafa Godoi  Rafa Godoi* – Osaco, Brazil ('15, '16) Rafa was the personification of technical skills and hard work. Rafa can still be found in Western NY playing indoor for the Rochester Lancers.

Ricard also set the school record for goals in a game with 6.
