BATAVIA, NY… The no.7 nationally-ranked Genesee Community College Cougars shutout the Mohawk Valley Community College Hawks 4-0 to win the NJCAA Region III District B Championship. It is the sixth Region III championship in the last nine years for Genesee.

Hiago Barros de Souza scored on a rebound off a Vitor Chriguer de Goes Viera shot to put Genesee on the board with less than eight minutes remaining in the opening half. Ed Port was credited with the assist for the drop pass to Barros de Souza.

Vitor Chriguer de Goes Viera scored to increase the Cougars lead less than five minutes into the second half to 2-0 with Port getting his second assist. Barros de Souza scored his second of the game with Ollie Ardle getting the assist to make it 3-0 Genesee with 17 minutes remaining in regulation. Barros de Souza would score his third of the game with Shahin Tahir Nasabi getting the assist. Adrian Bergman recorded the shutout for Genesee.

Hiago Barros de Souza was named MVP of the tournament. Robert Keogh, Ed Port, and James Lighton were named to the All-Tournament team as well as Houssam Serhan, Romaine Watkis and Tucker Garrett made the All-Tournament team for Mohawk Valley.

Genesee (17-3) will advance to the NJCAA Men 's Soccer National Championships November 14-17 at Herkimer College
