Cougars Sweep North Country Trip

GCC defeats North Country, 74-62

Batavia, NY – The Genesee Community College Cougars men's basketball team headed north over the weekend for a pair of games against Clinton Community College and North Country Community College. The Cougars would defeat the Cougars 102-82 on Friday, before completing the sweep on Saturday with a 74-62 win over North Country. 

The weekend started in an offensive shootout. Genesee and Clinton combined for the 98 points in the first half, as GCC opened a 56-42 lead. Genesee would maintain the offensive pressure, winning the game 102-82. GCC shot 46.1% from the field, led by another double-double posted by freshman Richard Martelly. Martelly would finish with 23 points along with 11 rebounds. Freshman Wayne Longmore provided 17 points from the bench, while sophomore Pape Tunkara would finish with 14 points.

The Cougars would finish their roadtrip against the Saints of North Country Community College. Genesee would open up a sizable lead, going into the halftime break up 42-21. The Saints would try and battle back, outscoring Genesee in the second half, but the deficit would be to much to overcome and the Cougars would win 74-62. Lead by sophomore Pape Tunkara's 22 points Genesee would shoot 33.3% from the field. Sophomore Antwan Williams lead the team with 10 rebounds, while Martelly would add 13 points of his own.

Genesee heads to Finger Lakes Community College for a 6PM start on Wednesday, February 1st. They will then return home for a pair of games on February 4th and 5th. Both games are set to start at 1PM.
