The Genesee Women's Basketball program ended their 2019-2020 season with a loss in the Region III DII title game over nationally-ranked Niagara County Community College.
The regional tournament started on Feb. 29th in the semi-finals for Genesee, as they took on Mercyhurst North East and put together a solid team win, 63-55. LisBeth Pineda Polanco led Genesee in scoring, with 19 points and pulled down 8 rebounds. Alayah Sweeney added another double-double to her season total, scoring 14 points and grabbing 17 rebounds. Erina Ishiguro and Abigail Willis both finished with 9 points, and Haley Alvord added another 7 points helping Genesee advance to the regional championship game.
The Region III DII Championship showdown took place on March 1 against the region 1-seed Niagara County Thunderwolves. A solid second half of play helped Niagara County pull away from Genesee, resulting in a 92-54 victory for Niagara County. Polanco finished with 14 points, 6 rebounds, and 7 assists. Sweeney chipped in 10 points and 9 rebounds, while Alvord and Ishiguro both finished with 8 points. Tylasia Weaver added another 5 points and 7 rebounds for Genesee.
Earning All-Region Team honors for Genesee were, Sweeney who was selected for the All-Region First Team. Erina Ishiguro was selected for the All-Region Second Team, while Polanco and Weaver earned All-Region Third Team honors.
Genesee finished the 2019-2020 season 14-12 overall and 6-2 in conference play. The team averaged 66.2 points a game and 47.2 rebounds a game.
