BATAVIA, NY... The Genesee Women's Soccer Program held their annual Girls' Junior Varsity Indoor Soccer Tournament this past weekend on January 26th. Seven teams participated; Albion, Albion Raptors 1, Albion Raptors 2, Brockport, Holley, Soaring Caps Red, and Soaring Caps White. The tournament started promptly at 9am and each team was guaranteed two games before being seeded for playoffs. After everyone played their two games, the teams were seeded 1-7th place. First place was Holley with two wins and four goals total, second place was Albion Raptors 2 with two wins and two goals total, and third place was Brockport with one win, one loss, and 3 goals total. Both Soaring Caps teams won one game and lost one game so we were forced to look deeper for the tie-breaker. They also both had two goals total and one shutout, but Soaring Caps White had only allowed one goal, as Soaring Caps Red allowed three goals. Soaring Caps White took the fourth-place seed and Soaring Caps Red followed behind in the fifth-place seed. Albion took sixth place with two losses and 2 goals total and Albion Raptors 1 trailed behind in seventh place with two losses and zero goals overall.

Because Holley was seeded first, they received a first-round bye and would be playing in the fourth play-off game. The first play-off game was both Soaring Caps teams against one another. Soaring Caps Red came out on top with a 2-0 win. The next game both Albion Raptors' teams would face off. This was a tight game but, Albion Raptors 2 ended up moving on. Our third play-off game consisted of 3rd place Brockport challenging 6th place Albion. Brockport won 3-0 and was headed to the semi-finals. 1st place Holley was set to play the Soaring Caps Red. Holley came from behind and won 2-1, sending them to the finals. Albion Raptors 2 played Brockport in the second semi-finals game. Brockport tied the game up at 1-1, but one of their strongest players ended up injured. The game resulted in Albion Raptors 2 winning 2-1 and going to the finals to face Holley. Holley had a very young team of mostly 8th graders and fought hard but, ended up losing to Albion Raptors 2 in a 2-0 game.

Jeff Reyngoudt, Head Coach of the GCC Women's Soccer Team and the Tournament Director, was very pleased with the clean and exciting level of play. "This was another successful tournament with a strong group of soccer players. Macy and I always love to see that the talent is getting better and better every year", said Reyngoudt. Jeff had also stated that the teams that made it to the finals, Holley and Raptors 2, were seeded 1st and 2nd. They both worked hard the whole day and had talented players. Overall, it was a great day of very well-played soccer.

GCC Women's Soccer is holding their first ever Girls' U10 and U12 Tournament on February 23rd. If you're interested in submitting a team, please email Jeff Reyngoudt at jcreyngoudt@genesee.edu.
