Women's Volleyball Celebrates Sophomore Night

Batavia, NY - The Genesee Women’s Volleyball team returned to action on Thursday for a conference match-up against Finger Lakes Community College Lakers. The Cougars celebrated the final single home game of Sophomores Allie Dent, Shyanne Creer, Tia Stone and Sydney Martin.

The Cougars started off strong with great serving from Allie, followed with a block from Shyanne Creer & Elena Azzi to light the fire defensively. Though finger lakes would make a push for a commanding lead in the first set, the cougars managed to put a hold on the Lakers offensive front. A solo block from Emanuelle Sartorato and a kill from Azzi began a barrage of points for the cougars. The Lakers would end the first set. 25-18

In the second set the Lakers would take four straight before the cougars could fight their way onto the board. Finger Lakes thickened the line between themselves and the cougars early on, but their streak offensively followed with faults, in which the cougars took advantage of. Azzi continued to shine with adding a solo block to her assisted block. The Lakers responding to the cougars strike, take the second set. 25-18

Not taking the first two sets lightly, the cougars began set three with a barrage of attacks. While the Lakers came back with their own response, the cougars scraped off each point of the Lakers. With Shyanne Creer letting them know exactly what they mean with an ace. Finger Lakes started to show signs of a comeback, Sartorato shut down their hopes, putting the ball on the other side with a kill, followed by a fantastic ace from Allie Dent. Though the Cougars battled in the third set, the Lakers made a late final push to close out the game. 25-22

The Cougars will close out the season in a POD play at home against FInger Lakes Community College and Monroe Community College. The first game will start at 9:00 AM on Saturday, October 14th.
