Genesee Volleyball wins home opener vs Corning Community College

Batavia, NY - In a thrilling women's volleyball match, the Genesee Women's volleyball team secured a victory, defeating Corning in their first home match of the season. The match ended with the Cougars taking three straight sets. (25-20, 25-20, 25-18).

 

The first set started with both teams trading points, neither willing to give an inch. However, a pivotal moment came when Sydney Martin delivered a remarkable ace, shifting the momentum in favor of the Cougars. Aiyana Semear's fantastic tip further strengthened their position. With the cougars on the brink of taking the set, Sydney Hnat's decisive kill secured the final point, allowing the Cougars to claim the first set.

 

The second set saw Allison Dent's powerful serving setting the tone for the Cougars. They surged ahead on the scoreboard early, but the Barons launched an offensive attack that briefly leveled the playing field. Not to be outdone, the Cougars retaliated with a dominating kill by Shyanne Creer. In the end, it was Allison Dent who sealed the deal with another crucial kill, as the Cougars took the second set.

 

The Cougars maintained a clear advantage in the third set, determined to secure the victory. However, the Barons refused to go quietly. Sydney Martin delivered a massive hit that propelled the Cougars into the lead. Then, with the game on the line, Shyanne Creer unleashed a powerful kill that closed out the match, securing a well-deserved victory for the Cougars.

 

Sydney Martin led the team with 5 kills, 10 assists, 9 aces and 7 digs. The cougars will travel to Mohawk Valley Community College for a POD play this saturday at 10:00 AM
