The Genesee Community College volleyball team traveled to Monroe Community College in its last weekend of pod play before playoffs. Only one team – host Monroe – recorded a better day than the Cougars, who went 2-1 on the afternoon.
Aside from Genesee, five other teams competed at Monroe that included: Broome Community College, Finger Lakes Community College, Corning Community College, Tompkins-Cortland Community College, and host Monroe.
With a pair of region wins over Tompkins-Cortland Community College and Corning Community College, the Cougars have identical National Junior Collegiate Athletic Association Region III records with Herkimer. Both Genesee and the Generals have recorded 9-8 region records and are in the eighth position in the standings with identical .529 winning percentages. Genesee sandwiched a pair of 3-0 victories over the Red Barons and Panthers with its only loss to Broome 3-1. The Cougars swept both their other opponents by first beating Corning by scores of 26-24, 25-23 and 25-19, respectively. Genesee completed its day with a solid win by a collective set-score of 75-49 in its final sweep of the day against Tompkins-Cortland with scores of 25-18, 25-15 and 25-16, respectively.
The Cougars compete next in the Western New York Athletic Conference Tournament next weekend Oct. 21 with starting times to be determined.
