Marino and Pocock Commit Together

On December 22nd, Alexis Marino and Novalee Pocock committed to the Genesee Women's Soccer team for the 2024 season. Alexis is a 5'7" defender who started 3 years for the Alexander Varsity girls' soccer team. She has 12 career goals and 10 career assists. Marino was awarded exceptional senior and was captain of her team for 2 years. She was also a cheerleader for her school and threw shot put and discus and ran the pentathlon for the track team. Lex is an honor roll student and plans to major in Early Childhood Education.

Nova is a 5'11" goalkeeper with incredible talent. She started 2 years for the Byron-Bergen Varsity girls' soccer team with an overall save percentage of 90.6%. During her junior season, she had 9 goals against her in 23 games and during her senior season she only let in 8 goals in 21 games. Pocock has 164 career saves and both years she was on the team they won sectionals. She was awarded All-State, played in States her junior year, and was an exceptional senior. She also has played basketball, softball, and swam for her school. Nova is a high honor roll student and plans to major in Health Studies with hopes of becoming an Ultrasound Tech.

Lex and Nova chose to do their commitment photo together because of their friendship with one another. Although they play for rival schools, they are on the same summer team. "Recruiting friends is always a huge bonus. They usually train together over the summer and help keep one another accountable, as well as having built in chemistry on the field," stated Head Coach Jeff Reyngoudt. "Almost all of our starting defenders this year were sophomores, so we're excited to get a strong defender like Alexis, and it's just as exciting to have a goalkeeper with Nova's size and ability," said Reyngoudt.

Jeff and Macy have been meeting with a lot of recruits and have some more commitments coming up. The Cougars ended their 2023 season with a 9-5-1 record. If you are interested in trying out for next year's 2024 Genesee Cougars, please email Jeff Reyngoudt at jcreyngoudt@genesee.edu.
