Genesee Drops a Tough One to MVCC

GCC falls to MVCC 4-2

UTICA, NY... The #3 Genesee Women's Soccer team traveled to Mohawk Valley and fell in a close match to the #4 Hawks, 4-2.

MVCC found themselves on the scoreboard first, thanks to a goal from Jordyn Squire eight minutes into the match. Less than ten minutes later, Ashley Bliss would tie the contest at 1-1, as she netted her 13th goal of the season, assisted by Ayuka Toshimoto. The Hawks would add two more goals in the first half, with Jazmyn Gillette and Ciara Schaffner being credited with the goals, to give Mohawk Valley a 3-1 at the half.

Genesee was able to cut into the MVCC lead in the second half, as Chloe Barrett scored her 6th goal of the season, assisted by Grace Pastuszynski, to trim the Hawks lead to 3-2. With around five minutes remaining in the match, the Hawks added one more goal from Reilly Rich to make it a 4-2 MVCC lead. The Hawks would defend this lead until the final horn at the end of regulation.

The Cougars earned the number two seed in the NJCAA Region III DIII tournament and will await the winner of the quarter-final matchup scheduled for October 23rd. Genesee will host the winner of that contest on Tuesday, October 26.
