Pair of School Records Fall; Men on Top After Day One of Regional/District Championships

The Genesee Community College men's swimming and diving team currently sits atop the pack after day one of the Region III/Northeast District Championships. The women ended the day in third.

The Cougars were represented in every individual finals race on Friday night, and Genesee's first win came from Matthew Langerman, who paced the 500 free with a finishing time of 5:03.79. Alex Dedoszak, who also swam in the race, finished fourth (5:26.19).

Joan Ferrer captured GCC's second individual win in the men's 50 free, knocking more than half of a second off of his qualifying time to finish the race in 22.84.

The men's 400 medley relay team of Ferrer, Thomas Richardson, Kyle Podlaski and Benjamin Vacanti set the school record and won the race with a time of 3:50.49, and Ferrer, Podlaski, Vacanti and Langerman set another school record finishing runner-up in the 200 free relay with a time of (1:33.91).

Miranda Dunton began the night on the women's side with a runner-up finish in the 500 free (5:39.16) and Lindsay Harloff came in third (5:47.95). Angel Priest earned a third place finish in the women's 200 IM (2:28.93) and MiKenna Carpenter came in third in the women's 50 free (26.86).

Dunton, Priest, Carpenter and Shizuka Furuta swam to a third place finish in the women's 400 medley relay.

Thomas Slenker came in second in the men's 1 meter diving, with a total score of 371.50. Denzel Flowers dove to a fifth place finish with a points total of 266.50.

Day two will began at 10 a.m. on Saturday with prelim swims. Finals will begin at 6 p.m.
