Softball Team Continues Home Stretch

The Genesee Community College softball team is the midst of its biggest homestand of the season. The team plays six games via three doubleheaders that began April 24 and end April 26.

In the April 25 games against visiting Niagara County Community College, the team dropped a pair of games in mostly misty, light rain by 9-0 and 8-0.

Sam Tatarski and Brittni Way had hits in each of the two games to lead the way.

In the first game, Shiori Ubukata also plated a single, while Tatarski faced 32 batters from the mound and allowed 11 hits with one strikeout.

In the second game against the Thunderwolves, Katie Haefele joined Tatarski and Way with a single; while Jackie Guzdek got the call from the mound and faced 25 batters in allowing 10 hits to go with five strikeouts.

Prior to facing NCCC, the Cougars hosted Corning Community College April 25. Genesee was able to plate four runs in the contests with both finals ending at 10-2.

Tatarski scored two of the four runs with the others coming from Mikayla Bush and Ubukata.

Between the two contests against Corning, Genesee totaled 15 hits with Tatarski and Bush combing for more than half with eight total and four apiece.

Three other Cougars had a pair of hits each that included Guzdek, Lampart, and Ubukata. Becca Meyers rounded out the Genesee hitters. Tatarski, Guzdek, Lampart and Ubukata all had doubles between the two games.

Lampart led the way with batted-in runs with a pair, while Bush and Meyers also brought in runners.

Tatarski and Guzdek split the games against Corning from the mound and collectively faced 66 batters. Each pitcher allowed five earned runs and surrendered 25 hits collectively with one strikeout.

Genesee rounds up its homestand with a pair of games against Erie, April26 with start times scheduled for 3 p.m. and 5 p.m.
