GCC Baseball Collage

The Genesee Community College fall baseball team visited the iconic "Home of Baseball" in Cooperstown, NY, Aug. 31. and also got to play on historic Doubleday Field in an exhibition contest against Durham College of Canada to kick off its exhibition schedule of fall baseball.

According to Bill Francis, a library associate at the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum:

"The fabled 9,791-seat ball field, situated between Susquehanna, Pioneer, Elm and Main streets, in Cooperstown, is not only a destination for baseball fans, but baseball teams from around the country.

Owned and operated by the village of Cooperstown, Doubleday Field plays host to more than 350 baseball games a year, ranging from youth baseball to high school and collegiate tournaments to senior leagues.

Doubleday Field is renowned the world over, a recognizable name to baseball fans despite the fact that it's nestled in the center of a village of only 2,000 inhabitants, but in Cooperstown it has remained as hallowed ground for more than eight decades."
