Lady Saints Fall in Regional Championship

The incredible season for the North Country Saints Women's Soccer Team came to an end with a 4-1 loss to Genesee CC in the championship game.

After the Cougars opened the scoring, Marie Sibbing hit a shot into the wind from midfield that carried over the top of Genesee's keeper to knot the score at 1-1.

Genesee would strike twice though in the last seven miutes of the half to take a 3-1 lead.

"We held on for 35 minutes, but their depth just overtook us." said Saints Coach Kent Egglefield. "it was difficult to keep up with their ability to sub fresh players at will."

The Saints played the title game with only 13 healthy players compared to the 25 the Cougars suited up.

The Cougars would add a PK early in the second half for a 4-1 final score.

"They are a fantastic team and program. They wore us down and ran us all over the field. We gave it everything but in the end we came up short, I wish them nothing but luck as they head to Nationals." said Egglefield.

Alison Van Schaik turned aside 9 shots for the Saints.

Marie Sibbing and Jenny Dejung were both named to the tournament All-Star team.

The Saints finish their historic season 13-3.

"I need to thank these girls for everything they did for this program this year. This was the best team I have ever put on the field and I wish I could explain how proud I am of them."
