Jayhawks Get The Win on Sophomore Night

JAMESTOWN - It was a night filled with emotion as the Jamestown Community College volleyball team took down visiting Genesee Community College in three straight sets.

 

Prior to the match, head coach Ashley Lund recognized her lone sophomore on the team, right side Emma Pumford (Jamestown, NY/Jamestown HS). Emma Pumford came back for one more season after playing in 2019. Emma Pumford played in 32 matches during her time as a Jayhawk.

 

The Jayhawks (9-9, 2-2 WNYAC) took care of business against the Cougars, posting set scores of 25-11, 25-16, and 25-11.

 

The offense looked solid for JCC, led by freshman outside hitters Emma McCarthy (Olean, NY/Allegany-Limestone) with 13 kills and Megan Cotter (Jamestown, NY/Southwestern High) with nine kills. Freshman setter Madison Johnson (Panama, NY/Panama Central) continues to shine in the middle of the court, coming away with 27 assists.

 

On the defensive end, three Jayhawks had double-digit digs with freshman middle hitter Claire Pumford leading the way with 15 digs. McCarthy and Cotter each had 13 digs on the night. Emma Pumford was a force at the net, coming away with three blocks.

 

At the conclusion of the match, Director of Athletics George Sisson recognized Coach Lund for her 13 years of outstanding success leading the volleyball program as she will be stepping down at the conclusion of the 2021 season.

The Jayhawks will be back in action this Saturday, October 23rd, as they will be competing in the Western New York Athletic Conference with their first match coming against Niagara County Community College at 9 a.m. Games with be played at Monroe Community College.
