Swimming & Diving Finishes Runner-Up at Regionals/Districts

BATAVIA, NY… The Genesee Swimming & Diving program competed in the Region III/Northeast District Championships on Saturday, February 15, and Sunday, February 16, at Monroe Community College.

The Women's team finished 3rd in total points (287) behind Monroe CC and Fashion Institute of Technology, while the Men's team finished 2nd in total points (453) behind Monroe CC.

Ashley Hearn finished 2nd and Ana Cerezer Pinto placed 3rd in the Women's 50 Yard Breaststroke, Ethan Heim finished 3rd and Brandon Cutter placed 4th in the Men's 50 Yard Breaststroke.

In the 1000 Yard Freestyle, Ashton Laird finished 4th for the women's event, and Hunter Camacho placed 2nd followed by Tyler Stachowiak in 3rd for the men's event.

For the 50 Yard Freestyle, Brianna McMullen placed 3rd, followed by Cerezer Pinto in 5th, and Madison Hammond in 7th. Carlitos Sanchez took 1st (new school record- 22.01), followed by Cutter in 3rd and Raymond Pray in 6th.

The men's team of Stachowiak, Heim, Camacho, and Sanchez took 1st in the Men's 200 Yard Medley Relay and 200 Yard Freestyle Relay, while the team of Laird, Hearn, McMullen, and Cerezer Pinto took 3rd in the same women's events.

In the Women's 50 Yard Backstroke, Cerezer Pinto took 4th followed by Hammond in 5th. Sanchez took 1st in the men's event (new school and regional record- 22.64) with Pray finishing 3rd.

Hunter Camacho won the Men's 400 Yard IM event with a time of 4:56.59.

Ashton Laird would go on to finish 3rd in the Women's 200 Yard Freestyle, while Stachowiak won the event for the men (1:55.08).

The men's team of Stachowiak, Heim, Camacho, and Sanchez took 1st in the Men's 400 Yard Medley Relay with a combined time of 4:00.72.

In the 100 Yard IM, McMullen placed 3rd and Stachowiak would win the event with a time of 1:01.98, which is a new school and regional record.

Camacho finished 3rd in the Men's 500 Yard Freestyle while Hearn took 4th for the women's event.

Laird would also finish 3rd in the Women's 100 Yard Backstroke, with Sanchez taking 1st and Pray taking 3rd.

The 100 Yard Breaststroke ended with Hearn taking 3rd and Heim taking 2nd, followed by Cutter in 4th. McMullen finished 2nd in the Women's 50 Yard Butterfly.

Tyler Stachowiak and Hunter Camacho would take 1st and 2nd in the Men's 1650 Yard Freestyle.

The Women's 100 Yard Freestyle finished with McMullen in 2nd, Cerezer Pinto in 4th, and Hammond in 6h. Carlitos Sanchez took 1st in the men's event with a time of 48.43.

Ashton Laird took 3rd in the Women's 200 Yard Backstroke, while Raymond Pray took 2nd for the men. The 200 Yard Breaststroke finished with Hearn taking 3rd and Heim taking 2nd, followed by Cutter in 3rd.

In the final two events of the weekend, the women's team of Laird, Hearn, Cerezer Pinto, and McMullen took 3rd in the 400 Yard Freestyle Relay and the men's team of Stachowiak, Camacho, Heim, and Sanchez took 1st with a combined time of 3:32.44.

Carlitos Sanchez would be named the Male Highest Point Scorer for the region with 64 points, while Head Coach Jeff Reyngoudt took home Women's Swimming Coach of the Year honors in his first year at the helm.

The Swimming & Diving team will start preparing for their trip to the NJCAA National Tournament at Indian River Community College in Fort Pierce, FL on March 4-March 7.
