The Western New York Athletic Conference (WNYAC) named its award winners and its all-academic selections with Genesee Community College receiving both the top male freshman and sophomore players-of-the year as well as 56 all-academic selections.
Brian Fobbs was named WNYAC Sophomore Male of the Year, while Kevin McParlene was tabbed as WNYAC Freshman Male of the Year.
Fobbs competed on the men's basketball team and was named to two first teams that included: NJCAA All-American and NJCAA All-Region. He was also GCC's Male Athlete of the Year, as well as the NJCAA Region-III (Division-II) Player-of-the Year. At the Division-II national level, Fobbs was first in rebounding and second in scoring and finished in the top-50 in three other categories that included field-goal percentage, three-point field-goal percentage and free-throw percentage.
Fobbs also set the single game record for points with 46, and most free throws in a game with 17. Career-wise he finished with the most 20-point games in a season (26) and the most 30-point games in a season (10). For a single season, he finished second in four categories that included: scoring average (24.4), points (766), and rebound average (24.4) and rebounds (362). After two impressive seasons, he finished fourth on the Cougars' all-time career scoring list with 1,306 points.
McParlene competed on the men's lacrosse team and was named to three first teams that included: NJCAA All-American, NJCAA Region-III, and WNYAC All-Conference. In addition, he finished in the nation's top dozen in four categories that included: shots on goal (fourth), scoring (seventh), points (eighth), and assists (12-th).
WNYAC All-Academic selections were based on a 3.30 grade-point-average or higher with the soccer programs securing the top-two spots for the Cougars. The women's soccer team had 11 selections followed by 10 by the men's team. All of the all-academic student-athletes are listed below by team and include:
